Okay, maybe this new Facebook newsfeed isn’t so bad after all. I edited my privacy settings tonight to reflect the fact that I don’t want everyone and their employer to be able to look at every move I’ve made over the past few days, though I still think twice about the stuff I do on Facebook now. Shouldn’t I grow out of it already? Anyway, Webb, JP and I were sitting around watching the Steelers game tonight when I logged on and saw that Grey Watson and Erin Wakeman had joined the group “If this group reaches 100,000 members, my girlfriend will have a threesome”. I promptly joined. Any gf dumb enough to wager a threesome on a facebook group reaching 100,000 members almost deserves to have to do it with her boyfriend and another girl. As an aside: First, there is nothing appealing about threesomes to me. Period. Second, if I knew my girlfriend didn’t want to have one, it would make absolutely no sense to make a bet that would require her to have one. On to more important things.
Webb, JP and Jenny met me at an Immigration Rally today. If you turn on CNN, you should be able to catch how the turnout was “disappointing.” It was my first big rally for a cause. I didn’t get too fired up. Whaddaya gonna do when most of the speeches are primarily in non-translated Spanish? It was kind of cool being around a few thousand non-white people for a while, though. I can really feel for them. I can’t imagine what it would be like wondering if your family, or worse, just part of your family, got caught by INS and were deported. I think a good number of the people out today took some serious risks skipping work and presenting themselves in front of everyone. It’s inspiring to see what people will do to try and achieve their vision of the American Dream…whatever’s left of it.
We decided to take the bus back to the apartment instead of the Metro. I’m not totally sure why, but I think it had something to do with what a nice day it was outside. Unfortunately, busses have to deal with traffic and ours was late and got stuck between intersections a few times. Additionally, WJPJH (Webb, John Paul, Jenny, & me) stuck out like sore thumbs because we were once again the minority. As the bus got stuck in more and more traffic, people kept piling in. I was reminded of Outkast’s “Rosa Parks” as the driver kept repeating “Please move to the back of the bus to make room for more people.” There was no more room. Personal space absolutely disappeared for the half-hour it took us to get back to within two blocks of our place. One more thing to get used to…
PS – I still love it here. I’m calling a manager at Calvert Woodley tomorrow to talk about a potential job. That’s probably a post for tomorrow…
